HP Pavilion 17-f000 Notebook PC series
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I started out with the error code 0xc0000001      I used the internal Recovery tool to reinstall the operating system.   It didn't work.   I then bought the  (original operating system) System Recovery DVD Windows 8.1 Recovery Media for this computer.    It installed all the way to the end  (copying files, installing files to hard drive) and went to the point were it said it would restart the computer a few times.  It even showed the Administrator Box.    Then when it went to restart again..   I got a blank screen.      I retried all the disks again and got the same thing.    I even skipped reinstalling the final Driver Dvd to see if that would help.   Nope...

I don't know what to do now?  Help!

While no one here can say definitively what the problem is- a new hard drive may prove to be the answer. I have seen others get a pass on hard drive and it still required a new one to get everything working again.

Hi,

Tap away f2 key as soon as you power on laptop, perform extensive hard drive and memory tests. Let it finish.

If all the tests PASSED,

What I could suggest is to do a clean install of Windows 8.1 Single Language 64 bit, by creating UEFI bootable Windows 8.1 installation USB using Microsoft windows media creation tool

Windows will be automatically activated upon installation while connected to internet

Tutorial: Create bootable USB
https://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/18309-windows-8-windows-8-1-iso-download-create.html

Disable secure boot:
https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03653226

Change boot order to USB:
https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01443326

Plug in USB, not from it.

Clean install: https://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2299-clean-install-windows-8-a.html

Thanks Visruth,

I did run the F2 tests on the memory and the long test on the hard drive earlier and they all PASSED.

Are you saying I can't use the DVD's (System Recovery DVD Windows 8.1 Recovery Media for Windows 8.1) I already have and I would have to create a USB from the links you provided?

Thanks!

Sandy

Hi Sandy,

I have no idea why recovery DVDs are not working for you.

Yes you could follow my suggestions to clean install Windows 8.1

Do you think it could be the hard drive even though it passed all the tests?   I am thinking about replacing it and then trying to reinstall the recovery disks.

Anyone think I should try this?

Or, what about the dvd drive.   Could this be bad also?   I got the recovery disks from HP themselves, so I don't think they are bad.

Thanks anyone!
