I just bought an HP laptop, and I was hoping to use linux on it, either as the only OS or in dual boot. Would either deleting Windows and installing Linux, or partitioning the hdd (there is also an ssd, where windows is installed) and installing Linux on the partition void my warranty? Thanks in advance.

The software you install will not affect the warranty on the hardware but HP might refuse to help with any issues you have with Linux. You might want to make an image of the hard drive with Windows as it exists now befor installing Linux either alone or dual boot so you can roll back if you need to do so in the future.
