Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Installed a new hard drive  on my hp laptop (15-bs289wm) and I immediately get Boot Device not found. Please install an operating system on hard drive.  Hard disk (3FO).

I  can't even use the function keys to do anything.  What do I do?

Hi:

Your notebook should be supported by the HP cloud recovery tool which you can use to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.

Here is an info link for how to use that utility...

HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool (Windows 10, 7) | HP® Customer Support

You will need to use another Windows PC running W7 64 bit or newer and a 32 GB USB flash drive to create the media.

After the media is created, plug the flash drive into the PC.

Turn it on or restart it.  Immediately press/tap the ESC key to get the menu of options.

Select the F9 boot options menu, and from that, select the USB flash drive with the recovery media on it, and press the Enter key.

The PC should then boot from the USB recovery media.

I can't even get the function keys to operate.  I do have the cloud recovery on a usb.

If you can't access the system menu of options by pressing the ESC key immediately upon turning on the notebook, unfortunately I don't have any other suggestions for you to try.

The ESC key controls all of the other access functions (BIOS, Boot options, etc.).
