Owned my current laptop for about a week, earlier in the day it was fine no issues but tonight it has entered the repair mode and currently on the repairing disk errors menu. I have done the testing and HD Short DST failed but the computer has not shown prior signs of failure, I have an active antivirus protection and although play games a bit on this laptop they have not been shown to cause these issues with my old one. Please help, I’m stressed out trying to understand how this happened with a week old computer that has been good. TryIng this repairing disk errors process but I’m not savvy in this part of computers.

Hi,

If it has failed the short DST test, the hard drive needs to be replaced. Since the PC is under warranty I will flag the post and someone should intervene and you can get fixed under warranty.

David

Why would the hard drive fail on a brand new computer though? That’s what I don’t understand. I restored the default Bios settings in the case that disabling the function keys was the cause but that was reset. I’m getting an error code Oxc0000185 that I need to use recovery tools but the laptop did not come with media disks as it was an optical drive- free computer. I have an external disk drive, do I need to contact the store I got it from in order to get the recovery disks?

Edit

short dst still fails. Under manufacture warranty does that mean I am able to get a replacement computer rather than repair?

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

Thank you Kevin, I’m also contacting the store I got this from since they’re the retailer regarding this too as they can help.
