HP G71-WM Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

When I tried to install Windows 10 on my notebook currently running Windows 7, it got stuck "Checking for Updates" at 46% and stayed there for hours as though it were still checking. When I talked to a Microsoft Agent they said to go to HP and get a driver that would allow the install. Does such a driver exist and if so, how do I get it?

Hi:

There is no such thing, and your notebook is not supported by HP for W10, so don't be surprised if some things don't work.

What I have done when encountering that issue is to skip the checking for updates option, and just let W10 install.

W10 got stuck on that on my PC's too until I figured out that I could just skip the update check.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot.
