Pavilion 15-cs3509
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello

Had someone experienced a failing feature Windows update v2004, error code 0xC1900101 ?

The code stays for a driver problem, but:

- I previously updated all the "drivers & software" by means of hp support Assistant as the HP support suggests (https://support.hp.com/de-de/topic/windows-10-support-computing)

-  and The notebook 15-cs3509 stays on the list of tested notebooks with Windows 10 v2004 (e.g. https://support.hp.com/de-de/document/c05201517)

The installation ran ok, but on Restart it hung on boot (only the HP logo on a black screen).

Hints and/or workarounds to solve the issue?

@bnici

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8. (do not skip any troubleshooting steps even if you feel steps are repeating)

BIOS default:

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer and proceed with the installation process.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Many thanks for handling my question. Before trying again the time-costing W10 2004 update I would like to understand the "why" of your solution proposals; Could you explain, how a power reset or a BIOS defaults reset could solve the issue? are there concrete examples, where such actions succeeded?

I'd rather expected to hear of "W10 update known issues", those current list could be find under HP URL  https://support.hp.com/us-en/topic/windows-10-support-center-computing.

Unfortunately the newest entry in that list lies back to Dec., 12th 2019, ie. far before the W10 v2004 !

As a HP support employee, could you line up the list update?

Thank you for posting back.

By performing power drain will release static energy which might have cause during installing process.

As computer is stuck at initial start up on HP logo by performing above step will allow computer to boot in windows or error log.

Microsoft will push the future update through Windows update or HP support assistant.

Hello again

On my last post of 08-09-2020 I rose the question:

"I'd rather expected to hear of "W10 update known issues", those current list could be find under HP URL  https://support.hp.com/us-en/topic/windows-10-support-center-computing.

Unfortunately the newest entry in that list lies back to Dec., 12th 2019, ie. far before the W10 v2004 !

As a HP support employee, could you line up the list update?"

As per today, 08-23-2020 the "W10 update known issues"-list still does not contain any "W10 v2004"-related entry... Any hope to see that list updated in useful time?

I understand your concerns.

Please perform the system file check.

1) Select Start, and in the search box, enter Command Prompt. Press and hold (or right-click) Command Prompt (Desktop app) from the search results and select Run as administrator.

2) Enter DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth (note the spaces before each "/").

3) Enter sfc /scannow (note the space between "sfc" and "/").

Have a nice day!!
