HP Spectre x360 - 13-aw0072nb

Dear all

Since I reinstalled Windows 11 on my laptop, keyboard backlights go out after about 30 seconds. They don't come back touching the mousepad (as they used to do), only after pressing a key, which then appears in the field with the focus. In the bios I can't find the advanced tab, to which HP refers.

Does anyone know how to solve this ? Is installing a previous version of the bios a solution, and if so, where can I find these previous bios-versions ?

Many tanx in advance !

Yours truly

Filip

Unfortunately, that is something that you won't be able to change.

We are all in that very same boat.

BIOS can no longer be downgraded.  There are no advanced BIOS  settings in the BIOS.

Thanks Erico for this info.

Any idea what HP is waiting for to reactivate this splendid feature in their own hardware ?

You're welcome.

I can't say that I ever tapped the touchpad to get the backlight to turn on again. I always touched the spacebar.

As far as when HP will return to letting the backlight stay on, none of us would have a clue.

HP does what it decides to do.

You say it's impossible to downgrade a BIOS. However, isn't it possible to find 'old' BIOS-files somewhere ? I have sp147121, and I'd like to give it a try. If  someone should even have older BIOS-files, I also would give it a go. Anybody ?

HP has removed the ability to downgrade a current BIOS.

You could remove the BIOS chip , program it with an older version and install it in place of the removed chip.

That is how to get around it.

Hi Erico

I'd be more than happy to try this, but how exactly do I 'remove the BIOS chip , program it with an older version and install it in place of the removed chip' ?

Hi Filip,

Previous BIOS versions are here.

I suggest having it done by a laptop shop if you are not familiar with any of that.

It is an advanced operation for most people.

if you are asking how to do it,  that tells me that you do not possess a hot air station or the knowledge required to successfully program the chip and swap the original chip out with a new programmed one .

You should have it done by someone who knows how.

You can inquire at a shop in Belgium that does component level repair on laptops.
