Hi @nicky1212,

welcome to the HP Forums! 🙂

I would be happy to help you with your HP Pavilion dv7-4283cl Entertainment Notebook PC.

I understand that the F11 key light status does not change when you press the key, and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

Did it happen only after upgrading the OS to Win10?

On most HP and Compaq notebook computers, it is necessary to press and hold the function key (fn) while pressing one of the f1 through f12 keys to activate the default functions; such as, increasing or decreasing the brightness of the display, the sound volume, sleep, keyboard lock, etc. With advanced BIOS options, the function keys can be configured so that it is not necessary to press and hold the fn key.

To disable, or enable, the function key (fn) in the BIOS, do the following steps.

  • Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  • Turn on the computer and immediately press the f10 key repeatedly, about once every second to open the BIOS setup window.
  • Press the right-arrow or left-arrow keys to navigate to the System Configuration option.
  • Press the up-arrow or down-arrow keys to navigate to the Action Keys Mode option, and then press the Enter key to display the Enable / Disable menu.
  • Select the desired mode.
  • Disabled: Requires pressing and holding the function key (fn) while pressing one of the f1 through f12 keys to use the action indicated on the action key.

For example, on some computer models, if the Action Keys Mode is Disabled, pressing the f11 key will minimize and maximize a web browser if open. Alternatively, pressing and holding the fn + f11 keys will mute the sound.

The action keys may vary depending on the model of notebook.

  • Enabled: Requires pressing only one of the f1 through f12 keys to use the action as indicated on the action key.
  • Press the f10 key to save the selection and restart the computer.

Please let me know how this goes.

I genuinely hope that the issue gets resolved without hassles.

Cheers! 🙂

You're welcome. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.

The IDT high definition audio codec installed through the HP recovery manager will reinstall the original drivers that came with the laptop and not the Win10 compatible drivers.

I suggest you to uninstall the existing IDT drivers from the device manager and then download and install the IDT high definition audio codec for Win10 from this link

Hope this helps. Let me know. Cheers! 🙂

Thank you for your reply.

The driver link I provided in my previous post is of HP and not a third party.

Keep me posted. Thanks again! 🙂

You're welcome. 🙂

Thanks for trying the steps and I wish it had worked. But I suspect the drivers are not fully compatible with Win10, however, we tried our best.

Take care! 🙂

Hi.....I rolled back to a different driver version 6.10.6292.0   7/22/2010 and now i have the sound tab for  enhancements

and it works  great...apparently the link you gave me version 6.10.6491.0  8/16/2013 does not include the enhancement

tab for sound..and you are right they are not compatible ....future references.....tx
