Hello, I have a HP laptop that within the last day or so has started to freeze, will not allow me to do anything, it won't reset, allow me to do a recovery, it is constantly freezing.

Every time I try and restore or reset it asks me to choose another option.

It also flickers and turns black.

Your help would be very much appreciated

@AHMED313313, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're experiencing with your HP laptop. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve common freezing and screen flickering issues:

Initial Troubleshooting

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect any peripheral devices such as USB drives and printers.
  • Shutdown the laptop completely.
  • Remove the battery if applicable.
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then turn on the laptop.

Boot in Safe Mode:

  • Turn off your laptop and then turn it on.
  • During the boot process, repeatedly press the F8 key until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears.
  • Select Safe Mode and press Enter.
  • If the laptop works in Safe Mode, it might be a software or driver issue.

Check for Software Issues

Update Drivers:

  • Boot into Safe Mode if you can't do this in normal mode.
  • Update your graphics drivers and other essential drivers through Device Manager or HP's support site.

Check for System Updates:

  • Ensure that your operating system is up-to-date with the latest patches and updates.

Scan for Malware:

  • Use a reliable antivirus software to perform a full system scan.

Hardware Troubleshooting

  1. Run HP Diagnostics:
    • When restarting, press the F2 key to enter the HP Diagnostics menu.
    • Run a comprehensive diagnostic test to check for hardware issues.

System Restore/Recovery Options

System Restore:

  • If you've set restore points, use those to revert to a previous state where the laptop was working properly.

Factory Reset:

  • If nothing works and you're comfortable with losing data, you might consider going for a factory reset via HP Recovery Manager (accessible typically using the F11 key during startup).

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
