Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

I would kindly appreciate if I could get some help fixing my Windows 11 Intel Celeron.

For some reason, I was changing my screen resolution to a higher resolution, but it seems that I missed click one that was unsupported meaning it had an asterisk beside it. Now after I missed click on the wrong one which was 99* hertz, my screen went black, for about 2-3 days now I have left it, but it won't show anything. When you switch to one that is unsupported like that isnt as much over the limit as in like 85 it normally shows black for 5 seconds and come back, but however for the 99* it stayed black. I have tried resetting my driver many times using command prompt and many more as in like trying to reset and get in safe mode back but it wont let me.

It would be an honor if you could reach out and help me solve this problem.

Sincerely,

Bryan Stamp

Hi @IneedYourHelp1

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand your frustration when screen goes black for a few seconds and this can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to try and resolve the issue on both HP laptops and desktops.

Update Drivers:

  • For Graphics Card Drivers:
  • Go to HP's official website to find and update your graphics drivers.
  • For NVIDIA or AMD cards, you can also visit their respective websites to download the latest drivers.
  • Use Device Manager to update the display adapter drivers manually.

Check for Overheating:

  • Ensure that the vents on the laptop or desktop are not obstructed.
  • Clean the vents with compressed air to prevent dust accumulation.

Battery and Power Cycle:

  • Disconnect external devices, unplug the power supply, and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds to reset the hardware.
  • Reconnect the battery and power supply and power on the laptop.

Test with External Monitor:

  • Connect the laptop to an external display. If the issue doesn’t occur on the external monitor, the laptop’s display might be faulty.

Additional Steps for Desktops:

Reseat Components:

  • Turn off the computer and unplug it.
  • Reseat the RAM modules and the graphics card to ensure they are not loose.

Adjust Power Plan & GPU Behavior

  • Open NVIDIA Control Panel → Manage 3D Settings:
  • Set Power Management Mode to Prefer Maximum Performance for your apps.
  • In Windows Power Options:
  • Make sure Plugged In / On Battery settings for PCI Express → Link State Power Management is Off.
  • Set Sleep → Allow hybrid sleep to Off.

BIOS Update:

  • Check for a BIOS update on the HP support website, as an outdated BIOS could cause hardware compatibility issues.

Take care and have an amazing day!
