Hi, I have a HP Victus gaming laptop 15 of fb-0012ax model. Last night it started acting weird where soon after windows is booted up, I get a blank black screen reacting to nothing, about 4-5 times. One of those times I hit a BSOD but I couldn't catch the errors there since it was too fast. Since I couldn't start it up, next thing I did was try to follow the virtual assistant, and used esc key to pause startup, went to the f2 system diagnostics, and chose extensive system check. When running the check, it was ok up until SMART Drive/SSD check and then it hit a hang (screen didn't change for ~4-5 hours) when running both full SSD test and memory test. I figured that I had to restart the system, forced shutdown, did a hard reset by depleting power, and tried the procedure again. However, apparently, after that, windows doesn't even boot, and from the startup pause menu only f1 system information and f10 bios setup worked. F2 system diagnostics and F11 system recovery options just freezes the laptop and F9 boot options returns a blank unresponsive screen like without pausing the startup. Any idea what is happening, and what I can do? Thank you!

Hi @kaku050505,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for providing such detailed information. Based on your description, you're facing a critical hardware-level failure, most likely related to the SSD (storage drive) and possibly RAM. Let's break it down and help you figure out what to do next.

 1. BIOS Reset

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Press and hold the Windows key + B, then press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds.
  • Release the power button but keep holding Win + B until you hear beeps or see the BIOS recovery screen.
  • If successful, follow prompts to restore BIOS defaults.

2. Try External Boot Media

If BIOS recovery doesn’t work:

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
