Dear HP Support,

A while ago, I sent in my laptop for repair while it was still under warranty, because it was making a clicking or cracking sound every time I opened or closed it. At the time, I was told I would receive a replacement laptop during the repair, especially since this happened right before my exams, but unfortunately I never received one.

After the repair, my laptop looked okay on the outside, so I assumed the issue was resolved. However, after a while, the clicking noise returned. Since I rely heavily on my laptop for school, I didn’t send it back in again — I simply couldn’t be without it during the academic year.

Unfortunately, the damage has now become much worse: the cracking sound is louder and the side of the laptop is visibly splitting open. The warranty has expired, but I believe the original issue was never properly fixed in the first place.

I hope HP is willing to take responsibility for this and offer a proper solution, as the first repair clearly didn’t resolve the actual problem.

Kind regards, Kato Desloovere

Hi @Katodslv,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for sharing the full background of your repair experience. I can understand how upsetting this must feel, especially since this is the same issue you originally sent the laptop in for, and it’s now impacting your ability to use it for school.

Let me explain how HP’s repair warranty works so we can see what options might still be available to you:

  • When an HP device is repaired, the replaced parts and the repair itself are covered for 90 days from the date of repair, or for the remainder of the original factory warranty — whichever is longer.
  • If the same fault reoccurs within that repair warranty period, HP can readdress the issue at no cost.
  • If the repair warranty period has ended, the repair would normally be treated as a chargeable service.

That said, I’d like to check your previous repair records to confirm exactly when the last repair took place. If it falls within that 90-day repair coverage window, we can certainly try to arrange service under warranty again.

Could you please provide:

  1. The previous repair case number (or service order number).

Once I have this information, I can look up your repair history and confirm if the current issue qualifies for further warranty service.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
