My laptop charger recently fell in water. It was in there for about 50 seconds, after it fell in, the sockets in my house automatically went off shutting off just the electronics (wi fi, television, sky box, etc...) but not the lights or anything else. After I realised this I essentially took the two sections of the charger and put them outside to let them dry. After about 30-40 minutes I tried charging my laptop again (very stupid of me) making the electronics in the house go out again. At that I tried using the rice technique leaving it for the night. The incident happened at 8-9 pm and it has been in the rice for the whole night. This morning when I woke up I tried charging the laptop once again but it just won't charge. What should I do. Any help would be very appreciated, thank you for your time.

Hi,

You need to replace the charger, hoping that no damage was done to computer. You can find chargers online for good prize or you can also get auality universal charger at local electronics store.

Look on the label of charger what Wattage it has, it should be either 45 or 65 W. You can user higher Wattage charger, but avoid using lower Wattage.

On page 31 of service manual you can find various chargers and part number

Hi

In addition I would like to add...

The charger is sometimes linked to the Make/Brand and a Dell or Acer wont necessarily fit a HP.

So My suggestion is to take it to a shop and try to get an assurance it will work.

Oh that's what I didn't want to hear 😂. Anyways I heard sometimes you might have to wait for weeks before the charger might work again. Could this not be simply a matter of time?

Not completely true.

  • You can use a old Dell charger,f you have one lying around.
  • However if ou don't they go around for a very cheap price and not many people take them.Just HP and Dell users like me.
