This is an issue that I have experienced soon after purchasing this laptop initially in January 2016. I did not return the product due to the inconvenience of shipping considering where I live.
The notebook goes to sleep as normal but when woken up , the log in screen appears as normal but the fingerpirnt sensor does not blink or respond to my print, nor does signing in manually with a password gain me reentry into the computer. It loads and loads, the screen goes off for a second then returns loading but never reopening. My only option to regain access is to manually force shut down the pc or restart using the shutdown options on the log in screen. I would greatly appreciate a solution to this long standing issue.
Additionally, upon start up after logging in successfully, a dialogue box appears showing an error with the accelerometer? I have no idea what this means. Again, would appreciate your assitance in rectifying this.

Hi:
For the wake from sleep issue, see if installing the latest Intel management engine interface driver resolves that issue.
Install and restart the PC.
This package provides the Intel Management Engine Components Driver for supported notebook models running a supported operating system.

For the accelerometer issue, see David's solution to that problem at the link below...

Thanks for your prompt response, and simultaneously, i apologise for the delay in mine. Your suggestion was successul even without having to undergo the second portion. Since the update, I have not been notified of any issues with the accelerometer. I have encountered a new issue however and that is that my finger print sensor is now totally unresponsive to the point that the login screen tells me that the device is not connected to the computer. Can you suggest a remedy for this as well?

You're very welcome.
The only suggestion I can offer for that would be to install the current version of the HP Sinplepass software from your notebook's support page if you have not do so already.
This package contains the HP SimplePass Identity Protection Software for the supported notebook models and operating systems. This software protects identity information and account access using the computer owner's fingerprint.
