Hi @GDBV
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thanks for sharing that—those flashing virus warnings can be really alarming, especially when they seem to come out of nowhere. The good news is that Windows 10 in S Mode is designed to be extra secure, so it’s unlikely your laptop is truly infected. Most of the time, these are fake alerts from a website trying to scare you into clicking something.
Let’s walk through some simple, safe steps to clear it up:
✅ Step 1: Don’t Click the Warning
- If the message is in your browser (like Edge or Chrome), don’t click anything on the pop-up.
- Just close the browser tab or the entire browser window.
🧹 Step 2: Clear Your Browser History and Cache
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Click the three dots (⋯) in the top-right corner > Settings.
- Go to Privacy, search, and services > under Clear browsing data, click Choose what to clear.
- Select Browsing history, Cookies, and Cached images and files, then click Clear now.
🛡 Step 3: Run a Full Scan with Windows Security
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Go to Privacy & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection.
- Click Quick scan or choose Scan options > Full scan for a deeper check.
Windows Security is built-in and works well in S Mode—no need to install anything extra.
🔒 Step 4: Stay in S Mode
- S Mode only allows apps from the Microsoft Store, which helps prevent real viruses.
- If a website ever says “You need to install this to fix your PC,” don’t do it—that’s a scam.
If the flashing messages keep coming back, let me know what browser you’re using or what the message says—I’ll guide you through the next steps. You’re doing great, and I’ll make sure this gets sorted without any tech stress!
