@mlourwrote:After unchecking Fast Startup I did a Power on traditional start up and the Windows Music was working. In past I only heard the welcome music when I did a manual Restart.
Now I will leave laptop running for the rest of today (only 4 am here) to see if the rebooting has been resolved
many thanks Ike8120, fingers crossed.
As for your 2nd suggestion to find hidden Administrator . . . not sure i have the courage to do that.
Also if you haven't done so make sure your BIOS has the latest update from HP.
I also made changes to my power settings based on the information from this forum and other sites.
I hope it works for you.

As for Updates, I use HP Support Assistant regularly, I have the laptop plus 2 HP laserjet printers. No Updates Available as of yesterday.
I will be thrilled yet still very ticked off is my rebooting problem was solely due to "Fast Startup" in Windows. It has been over 5 months since it started and I was problem free for 2 years prior to Dec 2017.
Thanks again, if it doesn't help I will do a Factory Reset . . . which would have taken less time than the many hours I've spent since December trying to figure this out.
I will confirm if this really did solve the rebooting problem in a few days. There are many many people having this same problem.

Hi Riddell_Decipher,
First thank you for your efforts to help us with this constant daily shut down/restart problem even though it may be no fault of HP.
As possible solutions please add: Disable FAST STARTUP. This was one of two suggestions by IKE8120 on April 3/18. Here are the two fixes IKE posted:
Did you try to turn off the fast startup?https://www.windowscentral.com/how-disable-windows-10-fast-startup
As I posted be before may have to login as adminstrator https://routerunlock.com/how-to-enable-hidden-administrator-account-of-windows-10/
THIS HAS CORRECTED MY SPONTANEOUS SHUTTING DOWN/REBOOTING after over 5 months of frustration.
All the best

Hello there, I am getting this random restarting problem, i have tried updating the BIOS and running the HP support thing and it cancelled the short disk check for some reason. but most of the other checks all passed. Is there any reason this happens to HPs? I only noticed this once i had upgraded to Windows 10.
thanks
