Hi,

So just yesterday I was playing games and then my laptop suddenly restarted. This has still been going on and I noticed that once I log in to the computer, a couple of minutes - an hour will pass when it will restart again. Once it turned off, the power button would blink several times and then take me back to the login screen. Sometimes it would restart at the login screen as well.

Recently I updated my BIOS and in the msinfo32 section, it still displayed old BIOS. I didn't really think much of it. I also tried installing new drivers as I haven't done so since I got the laptop in early 2015. When I pressed f10 and was in BIOS screen, my laptop would randomly restart there as well. I would also like to mention that about 3 to 4 weeks ago, I got my laptop repaired for my keyboard.

  • I tried cleaning the vents
  • Turning automatic restart off
  • Made a key to stop automatic restart on regedit
  • Took the battery out and held the power button down for 1 minute

Edit: After trying to fix this issue for a while including system restore, everytime I hit a key, it shut down my laptop and the power button led blinked again. I think the repair shop that I went too messed up with the installation of the keyboard and somehow messed up the hardware inside as well.

Hi

So take the good/positive parts of the HDD and back them up.

Make sure your Recovery DVD/USB is up to date and functional.

Run the Hardware Diagnostics.  possibly...

Power on your PC, press Esc (repeatedly), then F2 at the prompt.
Choose System Tests (Fast Test does a 4 minute hardware check).

Then if that passes, clean up the partition by deleting old stuff, Ccleaner may help.

Defraggler is also worth a try.

Then we can tackle the list, item by item.

Hi, Thanks for helping me.

So I did a diagnostic (fast test) and everything passed.

The only 2 things that I am not sure that passed is this:

Battery Check: Primary - OK (0)
Primary: Logic State - OK (0), Charge State - OK (0)

I tried to make  USB recovery drive but I don't have a 16gb USB but I don't really care about all my files. I'll reinstall them anyway.

I can't get past the login screen because everytime I hit a key on my laptop the screen turns black and the power led blinks.

Edit: Only about 2/10 times will I be able to type the password out and enter to the desktop. I used CCleaner to clean my pc. I'm going to use Defraggler now

I also ran an extensive system test and nothing seemed to go wrong.

Next is a Recovery DVD/USB made using this....

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Create Windows 10 installation media

To get started, you will first need to have a license to install Windows 10. You can then download and run the media creation tool. For more information on how to use the tool, see the instructions below.

I sent it back to the repair shop that replaced my keyboard as it is within warranty. They said that it could be a software issue but I don't think it is since I system restored it to a point before the problem occurred. I also said that it could an issue with the dust buildup inside the laptop but they shrugged it off and said that dust buildup doesn't affect the laptop from restarting. I don't believe they cleaned the dust up inside the laptop.

Anyways, thanks for your help.

Hi

Well this takes 2 - 4 hours to complete and should resolve the software issues, if they exist.

Needs to be run in safe mode.
