After trying to download some updates (which it didn't install) the laptop keeps asking me to restart my computer.  I have done this repeatedly and it just keeps asking. I finally deleted the uninstalled updates hoping this would help - no luck.  This is very annoying as the message keeps popping up. The laptop is still under warranty - any advice?

Step 3 HP Support Assistant Updates -

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

The program might be stuck on an Update that it is repeatedly trying to install,

Let's try Uninstalling the HP support assistant from the control panel:

  1. Control Panel
  2. Icon view
  3. Programs and Features
  4. Scroll down, to the Uninstall the HP Support Assistant
  5. After the uninstall is completed, Restart the computer and log in

Next download and instal the latest version of HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

I uninstalled the HP Support Assistant application and the problem has resolved.  However, I cannot seem to re-install the HPSA app as you described.  Do I have to un-install the entire suite?  There is an application called HP Support Solutions Framework, ver. 12.11.27.1 installed.  Do I need to un-install this app also?

@AJB077

You can try uninstalling the complete software suite, if that fixes the issue then need not to uninstall the HP Support Solutions Framework app.

Keep me posted!

I uninstalled the HP Support solutions framework program but was still unable to install the HPSA because the software kept telling me that a newer version of HPSA was already installed.  No HPSA was installed so I don't understand that error message.  Eventually I was able to get the HPSA installed by opening the following file: 6b4a536b75b148f8b5b2593400c98a12  (This file is an appxbundlefile for HPSA 9x)

The HPSA app is up and running.  I will let you know if the old error message reappears.

Work on it as per your convenience and keep me posted on the results.

I de-installed HPSA and successfully reinstalled HPSA as per our previous communication and at first it seemed to have fixed the issue.  However, after a few days I now get the HPSA message "Your computer needs to restart" at least 4 times a day.  I choose the "restart now" option and after a quick reboot I take a look at the apps, programs and updates that were installed.  About 25% of the time I can see that an updated driver has been installed but typically no updates are installed.  Pretty annoying!

Thank you for posting back.

Have you tried updating system software using HP Support Assistant?

If no, Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

And, also we can try performing a system factory reset which will install original system software.

Keep me posted

I updated Windows - which for some reason hasn't been updating despite it being set at automatic updates  This seemed to sort the problem for a few days.  It has now started requesting restarts again - not quite as often but still 3 or 4 times a day. Reading the responses from other people on this forum, I am wondering if it's worth trying the other fixes as it doesn't seem to have fixed the problem for anyone else.
