Pavilion 15-cc134tx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, recently my laptop is having some trouble. When I open a PDF and start reading I don't touch anything. Then the screen fades to black(probably the screen turns off) now it should come back when I touch my keyboard or mouse but it doesn't. Nothing works on the laptop neither the keyboard nor the touchpad. I then have to manually power off the laptop by hard pressing the power button and then restart. Event viewer reported a critical error. Error 41. Below is the XML generated by Event Viewer. What is the underlying issue? hardware or software? All the drivers and BIOS is up to date Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to HP support community.

Shut down the notebook. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.  Select the Bios option ( usually f10 ) and under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory.

If both the above tests pass, try the following.

From the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.

sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )

Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.

Next, click the Start Menu, click Computer, left click Local Disc C once to highlight it, right click Local Disc C and select Properties.  Click the Tools tab and then click the button to 'Check the Drive for Errors'.  In the following window make sure both boxes are ticked and then click Start.  Agree to schedule the check at the next system restart and then restart the notebook

Let me know if that helps.

Run a extensive test to check for any hardware issues.

1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.

3. On the main menu, click System Tests.

4. The System Tests menu displays then click Extensive Test.

5. Click Run once, or Loop until error.

did an extensive test on both the drives I have an SSD and an HDD. Both of them passed the extensive test. I already talked with HP customer support and they arranged a technician to visit my place. They asked me to perform that test.
