Hi @Celia1021

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how concerning it feels when the laptop refuses to power on and only shows blinking lights. Thank you for sharing the details of the indicator behavior—it helps narrow down the possibilities.

Let’s walk through some clear steps together to bring the system back to life:

Step 1: Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Disconnect the AC adapter and remove any external devices (USB drives, printers, etc.).
  2. If the battery is removable, take it out. If it’s internal, just leave the laptop unplugged.
  3. Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge residual electrical energy.
  4. Reconnect the AC adapter (leave the battery out if removable) and try powering on.

Step 2: Check the AC Adapter and Charging Port

  • Ensure the adapter is firmly connected to both the wall socket and the laptop.
  • Look for any signs of damage on the cable or connector.
  • If possible, test with another compatible HP adapter to rule out power supply issues.

Step 3: Observe the LED Behavior

  • A blinking white light usually indicates the system is receiving power but not starting.
  • Alternating white and orange while charging suggests the battery is charging but may need calibration or reset.

Step 4: Battery Reset (for laptops with internal batteries)

Some HP laptops have a pinhole reset option:

  1. Look along the bottom or side edge for a small pinhole.
  2. Insert a paperclip gently and hold for 5–10 seconds.
  3. Connect the adapter and try powering on again.

Step 5: Run Hardware Diagnostics

HP laptops include built-in diagnostics:

  1. Turn off the laptop completely.
  2. Press the power button and immediately tap F2 repeatedly.
  3. The HP PC Hardware Diagnostics screen should appear.
  4. Run the System Test or Battery Test to check for hardware issues.

Step 6: BIOS Reset

  1. Power off the laptop.
  2. Press and hold Windows key + V, then press the power button.
  3. Keep holding until you hear a beep or see the HP logo.
  4. This resets the BIOS settings and can clear startup issues.

These steps should help isolate whether the issue lies with the battery, adapter, or internal hardware. If after these checks the laptop still does not respond, the diagnostics results will guide the next course of action.
