HP Pavilion Aero 13 Laptop PC 13-be2000 (767P1AV)

Hello HP/Community,

I bought a laptop this week and Upgraded the SSD to a bigger 2TB version. I reinstalled windows from scratch and it's mostly fine but after installing all the drivers I have one big issue left. The Laptop won't go to sleep.
- It does not go to sleep after waiting x minutes as set in the power plan
- It does not go to sleep after closing the lid
- It does not go to sleep after pressing the power button
- It does not go to sleep after selecting sleep in the windows shutdown/restart/sleep/hibernate menu

I have done:
- Installed all drivers available from HP
- Installed drivers from AMD (both graphics and chipset)
- Updated windows tot he latest version
- Updated BIOS to the latest found on HP website
- Reset the BIOS to default
- Reset the power profile and set sleep mode to lid and power button action
- Ran Windows power troubleshooter
- Ran HP Support Assistent which has show no errors or updates

I feel like there is some driver or HP specific part that is missing. Could you help me out what's going on

Hi @YIPP_Thomas

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for laying out everything so clearly—it’s genuinely frustrating when a brand-new laptop refuses to sleep, especially after a clean reinstall and hardware upgrade.

Based on your HP Pavilion Aero 13 and the steps you've already taken, this behavior strongly suggests a missing or misconfigured ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) component, often tied to HP-specific drivers or firmware.

Let’s walk through a focused recovery path to help restore sleep functionality and quiet those fans.

Root Causes to Consider

  • Missing HP System Interface Foundation driver: This driver enables communication between Windows and HP firmware, including sleep, lid, and thermal controls.
  • Incorrect AMD chipset configuration: Even with the latest AMD drivers, Windows may not properly register sleep states without HP’s ACPI extensions.
  • Fast Startup or Modern Standby conflicts: These can block sleep transitions or keep fans running.

Step-by-Step Fix

1. Install HP System Interface Foundation

This is often overlooked but essential:

  • Visit: HP Pavilion Aero 13-be2000 Drivers
  • Download and install HP System Interface Foundation under the “Software-Solutions” section.
  • Restart your laptop and test sleep behavior.

2. Reinstall AMD Chipset Driver from HP

Even if you’ve installed AMD’s version, HP’s package includes ACPI extensions:

  • On the same HP support page, download AMD Chipset Driver under “Driver-Chipset”.
  • Install and restart.

3. Disable Fast Startup

This can interfere with sleep transitions:

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
  • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  • Uncheck Turn on fast startup.
  • Save and restart.

4. Check Sleep States via Command Line

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
  • Run: powercfg /a
  • Confirm that S3 (Sleep) or Modern Standby is listed.
    • If only “Hibernate” or “Hybrid Sleep” appears, the system may be misconfigured.

5. Review Lid and Power Button Actions

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > System Settings.
  • Confirm that Lid close and Power button actions are set to Sleep.
  • Apply and test.

6. Check for Background Blockers

  • Open Task Manager > Startup tab.
  • Disable non-essential apps (especially VPNs, cloud sync tools, or monitoring utilities).
  • Restart and test sleep.

Let me know how your system responds after these steps—I’ll guide you further if needed.

Hello Hawks_Eye,

Thank you for your detailed responds.
Unfortunately the link you send gives a 404 not found page and if I manually go to the driver page for the laptop it only shows the 'HP Support Assistent' under Software solutions. and I don't see the HP System Interface Foundation driver or the HP version of the chipset drivers.

(This is the hp support link page where I end up: https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers/hp-pavilion-aero-13-laptop-pc-13-be2000/2101525735)

I'll get back to you on steps 3-6 after doing so.

Hello Hawks_Eye,

I have been away for a business trip but I had time to look at it:

Step 3 (Fast startup)
- No change

Step 4: (Sleep states)
- Only Standby state S0 is available, all others are not available
- S3 Hybrid sleep mentions: The hypervisor does not support this standby state
- Standby S3 mentions: The system firmware does not support this standby state

Step 5: (choose lid/power button)
- set correctly

Step 6 (background tasks)
- Was already reduced to a minimum

So I think we can see that the sleep states are not configured correctly. Might this be because the "HP System Interface Foundation" is missing (which I could not download from the link?)

Kind regards,
Thomas

Thanks for replying @YIPP_Thomas

Yes, the missing HP System Interface Foundation driver is likely the root cause of your sleep and fan issues. It enables ACPI-based power management, and without it, your system may default to S0 (Modern Standby) without proper sleep transitions.

Here’s how to resolve it and restore full sleep functionality:

Install HP System Interface Foundation for Pavilion Aero 13-be2000

Visit the official HP support page:
HP Pavilion Aero 13-be2000 Drivers

Select Windows 11 as your operating system.

Scroll to Software-Solutions section.

Download and install HP System Interface Foundation.

Restart your laptop and test sleep behavior again.

This driver bridges Windows and HP firmware, enabling proper sleep, lid, and thermal controls.

Reinstall AMD Chipset Driver from HP

Even if you’ve installed AMD’s version, HP’s package includes ACPI extensions:

  • On the same support page, go to Driver-Chipset.
  • Download and install the AMD Chipset Driver.
  • Restart your laptop.

This ensures Windows registers the correct sleep states and thermal profiles.

Confirm Sleep State Availability

After installing both drivers:

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
  • Run: powercfg /a
  • You should now see S3 (Sleep) or Modern Standby listed.

If S3 is still missing, your system may be locked to S0 due to firmware design. However, with the correct drivers, S0 should behave properly—allowing the system to enter low-power idle and stop fan activity.

Additional Checks

  • Ensure BIOS is updated to the latest version from the same HP page.
  • Recheck Power Options:
    • Lid close and power button actions set to Sleep.
    • Sleep timers configured under Advanced Power Settings.

Let me know how the system responds after installing the HP System Interface Foundation and AMD Chipset drivers. If sleep still fails, I can guide you through checking firmware flags or ACPI tables using diagnostic tools.

Hello Hawks_Eye,

Sadly there is only HP Support assistent under Software-Solutions. Is there another place I can download it, or could you provide a direct link?

Kind regards,
Thomas

@YIPP_Thomas

You're absolutely right to suspect the missing HP System Interface Foundation driver—and I appreciate your persistence. Here's the direct link to download it for your Pavilion Aero 13-be2000 running Windows 11.

Direct Download: HP System Interface Foundation

Visit the official HP support page for your model:
HP Pavilion Aero 13-be2000 Drivers

Select Windows 11 as your operating system.

Scroll to the Software-Solutions section.

Download: HP System Interface Foundation
(If it doesn’t appear, try selecting Windows 11 version 22H2 or 21H2 manually from the dropdown.)

This driver enables ACPI-based power management, allowing proper sleep transitions and fan control.

Additional Steps to Complete the Fix

1. Install AMD Chipset Driver from HP

  • On the same page, go to Driver-Chipset.
  • Download and install the AMD Chipset Driver.
  • Restart your laptop.

HP’s version includes ACPI extensions that AMD’s generic package may lack.

2. Verify Sleep States

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
  • Run: powercfg /a
  • You should now see S3 (Sleep) or Modern Standby listed.

If only S0 appears, your system may be firmware-locked to Modern Standby, but with the correct drivers, it should behave properly—fans should idle and sleep should trigger reliably.

3. Final Checks

  • Confirm BIOS is updated to the latest version.
  • Revisit Power Options:
    • Lid close and power button actions set to Sleep.
    • Sleep timers configured under Advanced Power Settings.

Let me know how the system responds after installing the System Interface Foundation and Chipset drivers. If sleep still fails, I can help you inspect ACPI tables or firmware flags using diagnostic tools. You're doing everything right—this final piece should bring your setup into harmony.

Thanks,
