I’ve had my laptop for a bout 2 years now I was using it last night before I fell asleep I was watching a movie on it when I got up today it was dead so I plugged it in and nothing happened no light letting me know it’s charging nothing no power at all plugged in or not. Hp support was not able to help so I’m hoping someone on here can . I’m a single mom of 3 and have been out of work on medical leave for over a year and a half now getting workmen’s comp but that’s just hardly enough to get us by I can’t afford to get a new laptop right now, there’s a lot of important stuff on there that I really really need. I really hope someone on here can help me get it back up and running.
thanks

Hi @Ace122686 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-c0000 . Let's try some steps to troubleshoot the issue and hopefully get your laptop powered on again. Here's what you can do:
May I know
Do you see an HP Logo when you try to turn on the unit and then the screen goes blank or blue screen, If Blue screen Have observed any error message?
Please try the following Troubleshoots steps.
1. Turn off the Unit.
2. Disconnect the AC adapter.
3. Remove any discs from the disc drive.
4. Remove memory cards from the card reader slot.
5. Disconnect all nonessential peripheral devices, such as printers, scanners, external hard drives, and USB flash drives.
6. Disconnect the AC adapter press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds.
7. Reconnect the AC adapter, and then turn on the computer.
Step 2
Turn off the unit and please press and hold the Windows key + letter B key and the power button together for 30 seconds after 30 seconds, 1st release the power button but keep holding the Windows key and B key for ten more seconds and then release these two keys If done correctly, you will see the display flashing once. Please attempt it thrice as this step and Restart the unit
Step3
The unit has to be turned off, Press Win+ V while holding these two keys then Press the Power button, continue to hold all three keys for 30 seconds and then release the Power button first and then release these two keys Please attempt it thrice and then you may get a Pop-Up CMOS Check and it will restart the unit
Even if you don't get a Pop-up restart the unit manually after 3 attempts
1. Check the Power Supply
- Inspect the power adapter and cable: Look for visible damage, fraying, or bent connectors. If possible, test with another compatible HP charger.
- Test the wall outlet: Plug another device into the same outlet to ensure it works.
- Check for the charging light: Even if the laptop doesn't power on, see if the light near the charging port or on the side turns on when plugged in.
2. Perform a Hard Reset
- Disconnect the charger from the laptop.
- Remove the battery (if it's removable; otherwise, skip this step).
- Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
- Reconnect the charger (without the battery, if removable) and try powering it on.
3. Inspect for Physical Damage
- Look closely at the charging port for debris, dirt, or damage. Clean gently with a toothpick or compressed air if needed.
- Check for any unusual sounds or smells (e.g., burnt electronics).
4. Test Without the Battery
- If the laptop has a removable battery, remove it and connect the charger directly.
- Try turning on the laptop. If it powers on, the battery might need replacement.
5. BIOS Recovery
- Disconnect the charger and ensure the laptop is powered off.
- Hold Windows + B (or Windows + V, depending on the model), and while holding these keys, press and hold the power button for 2-3 seconds.
- Release the power button but keep holding the keys until you see a BIOS recovery screen. Follow the instructions if it appears.
6. Reset Internal Power Connector
If the laptop has no response at all:
- Disconnect everything, including external peripherals.
- Let the laptop rest unplugged for a few hours, then retry.
7. Test the Charger
- Use a multimeter (if available) to test the output voltage of your charger.
- Borrow a compatible charger from someone, if possible, to rule out issues with your charger.
8. Seek Local Assistance
If none of the above works:
- Take your laptop to a local repair shop for a free or low-cost diagnosis. Explain your situation—they may help at a reduced cost.
- Some repair shops offer payment plans or discounts for urgent cases.
Data Recovery Options
If the laptop can't be repaired immediately, you can still recover the important data:
- Remove the hard drive or SSD (if you're comfortable doing so or can get help from a friend/technician).
- Use a USB-to-SATA adapter to connect it to another computer.
- Transfer your files to a safe location.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
