@Windy_Locklear4, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Yes, you can set up parental controls on your HP laptop running Windows to monitor and restrict your daughter's activity. While you won't be able to see everything she does in real-time without using third-party tools, Windows does offer a Microsoft Family Safety system that can help you block apps like Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, and monitor her usage.
✅ Here's how to set it up:
🧩 Step 1: Create a Microsoft Family Account
- Go to https://account.microsoft.com/family
- Sign in with your Microsoft account (create one if needed).
- Click "Add a family member" and choose "Child".
- Enter your daughter’s email (or create one) and send an invite.
- On your daughter's laptop, accept the invite and sign in using her Microsoft account.
🔒 Step 2: Set Up Parental Controls
Once her account is added as a child account, you can:
- View activity reports (apps used, websites visited, screen time)
- Block websites like:
- Block apps by name from the Microsoft Store
- Set time limits for device use and specific apps
🚫 Blocking Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat
These are not official Windows Store apps, but they can still be blocked:
👉 Block the websites:
- Go to your Family Safety dashboard.
- Select your child’s name.
- Under Content filters > Web and search, turn on "Filter inappropriate websites".
- Add those URLs under "Always blocked".
👉 Block the apps (if installed):
- If she tries to install TikTok or Instagram from the Microsoft Store or as a browser PWA:
- Go to Content filters > Apps and games
- Set an age limit (e.g., 12+)
- You can also manually block installed apps by name.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
