Help!  I am trying to find a Linux OS that will work for my HP Pavilion G7 1310us Laptop.  I have Windows 10  and need to switch since I can't upgrade to Windows 11.

I'm sorry, but HP does not provide support for Linux distros -- including boot and installation issues.

IF you replace the preloaded Windows OS with a Linux distro, or add a Linux distro, then you assume full responsibility for maintaining that -- including solving any problems with booting the other OS and/or installing the other OS.

Modern PCs with UEFI, instead of the older BIOS, are especially difficult to install because you have to go into the UEFI settings and make several changes before you can even boot from a USB stick -- and we are unable to assist in that work.

Your best bet for support now is to contact the support forum of the distro you are using.

If you are interested in using Ubuntu, go here: https://ubuntuforums.org/

Good Luck

Then simple answer to your question is -- NO -- that date only means that MS will stop supplying updates for Windows 10.  They won't stop you from using it, and if you are using good third-party AV products, they will continue to update themselves and you will still be protected against malware.

MS stopped supporting Win7 a LONG time ago and many folks are still using it without issues.

Thank you so much!!  I will start research third party AV now, you saved me hours of banging my head around "Google" although a lot of times I will learn that way, have an awesome day!

I'm running Archlinux on an HP 15 Notebook and it's great. Rolling updates keep the OS up to date, it even supports VM's so I can run a zoom client in a VM to avoid _possible_spying_by_CCP. LOL, anyway, arch may require a bit of time on a Saturday or Sunday to set up but once that's established it's a rock solid option. If time is tight and/or you just want to get a Linux distro up, you could maybe go for Mint, it's based off of arch and is much more similar to a Windows interface. There's also a few others such as Ubuntu but I've generally stuck with arch since I starting using Linux in 1995 and abandoned Winloads entirely. (well, to the extent I can, I still run it in vm's for anything I have to).

@2ofeverything

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Linux-for-HP-Pavilion-G7-1310us...

You can use the boot option "acpi=off" for the install process.
After that you can use the option "noapic" instead.

For that hit "e" in the grub- bootloader, go to the line linux=" ... " and replace the quiet splash and splasht with acpi=off hit F10.

Have a nice day,

unfortunately this give you reduced performance, because the crappy design of HP. But you can boot and use Linux
