Hi @DDDiva,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for reaching out. The issue you're describing — HP PC stuck in a “Preparing Automatic Repair” loop — is a Windows startup problem. It usually indicates a problem with the system files, boot configuration, or hardware. Here's how to troubleshoot it step by step:

Step 1: Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn off the PC completely.
  2. Unplug the power cable and remove the battery (if removable).
  3. Hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power and try turning it on again.

Step 2: Boot into Recovery Mode

If the loop continues:

  1. Turn on the PC and force shut down (hold the power button) as soon as the HP logo appears.
  2. Repeat this 3 times — Windows should enter Recovery Mode.
  3. On the Choose an option screen, select:
    • Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair

Step 3: Use Command Prompt to Repair Boot Files

If Startup Repair fails:

  1. Go to Advanced options > Command Prompt
  2. Type the following commands one by one:

                      bootrec /fixmbr

                      bootrec /fixboot

                      bootrec /scanos

                      bootrec /rebuildbcd

       3. Restart your PC.

Step 4: System Restore (if enabled)

If you had System Restore enabled:

  • Go to Advanced options > System Restore
  • Choose a restore point before the issue started

Step 5: Reset the PC (Last Resort)

If nothing works:

  • Go to Troubleshoot > Reset this PC
  • Choose Keep my files (if you want to preserve personal data)

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
