Microsoft Windows 11

I have a few issues with current BIOS revision.

1. TPM causes stuttering every min for about 5 secs. (No BIOS was released from AMD to resolve this) I had to disable TPM to stop the stuttering.

2. Bug in the power management causes the SSD to stop working. Not sure if the drive is told to go to sleep and not waking up. I tried every power option to disable. Still causes either a soft lock, hard lock, or BSOD.

3. Bug in graphics driver. Lots of random screen flickering and crashing of graphics drivers.

4. SSD becomes vary slow and problem worsens when on battery power. Takes 30 secs to a min to open PDFs, word documents, text files, pictures, etc. Programs open instantly, but files do not.

I have tried reinstalling the Windows 11 over 10 times, Installed Windows 10, tried various different BIOS revisions, various different versions of graphics, network, NVMe, and sound drivers. Nothing seems to resolve these main issues.

I don't use this laptop for gaming. Screen flickering happens the most when typing in Microsoft Word.

Same problems as before. Stuttering with TPM enabled and screen flickering still persist. Opening files when on battery power still takes 30 seconds to a minute to open.

Still having the same problems as before. Right clicking causes explorer to stop responding for 30 secs. Opening any picture, txt, word doc, pdf, excel spread sheet, power points, or any files other than .exe causes the laptop to hang for 30 secs or longer regardless if on battery power or not.

TPM still causes intermittent stuttering. I just disabled it in the BIOS for now as none of the BIOS revisions seems to fix the issue.

I did notice that if I have an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse connected and the laptop's display disabled, then the issue is gone. I am thinking the screen flickering and opening file issues are related to the display drivers. All version on HP's website and AMD's website do not resolve the issue and AMD's driver's causes the laptop to BSOD.

Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Hello @OS12TR

(1) Test your hardware Using the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI)

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04499777

See how it works:

I ran all UEFI test available.

Processor: PASSED

System Board: PASSED

Memory: PASSED

AC Adapter: PASSED

Primary Battery: PASSED

Storage drive: SMART: PASSED Short DST: Warning

I have a Samsung EVO 970 Plus 1TB installed.

I downloaded and installed Samsung Magician. I updated the software to the latest version.

I updated the firmware on the drive since it was not updated to the latest.

I ran a short scan: PASSED

I ran an extended scan: FAILED

I checked the SMART: ALL PASSED

I checked drive details: No compatibility issues found.

I ran an error check with windows 11 built in tool: PASSED and no issues with any files.

Seems there are issues with this drive. Guess I will need to replace it.

You are dealing with bad sectors that are being detected and reallocated more and more.

I strongly advise you to replace the drive disk immediately. You can still read the disk afterwards to save most important data. After that, you should mark disk with a red "X DEFECTIVE" and put it in cabinet.

Do you need more help ?

That's the thing. SMART did not detect this.

This manually run test found the errors.

Also, replacing the drive still does not resolve the TPM stuttering issue. I will have to wait for a BIOS update.

OK, thanks for reply.

So short/long are doing another <test> beside S.M.A.R.T

Due to detected problems you have to replace the drive anyway.

Good luck
