OMEN Laptop 15-en0037ax
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have been having multiple issues with my laptop, listed below:

  1. Sound output stops working.
  2. Microphone input stops working.
  3. BSOD with stop code critical_service_failed
  4. BSOD with stop code page_fault_in_non_paged_area
  5. BSOD with stop code clock_watchdog_timeout

The notebook is very new and has only seen around 10 days of use. It is immensely disappointing to see so many issues with the device right out of the box. I have already tried resetting Windows 10 and the issues were back by the next day.

Had another issue;

6. Sound randomly stutters or "screeches" in the middle of playback. This usually happens when watching videos on YouTube.

Honestly, seeing as no other posts regarding such issues have been made, I feel like maybe it's my particular device that's faulty. How can I initiate an exchange for the same? My device is still under warranty.

The lack of response or acknowledgement on this post from any of the support staff is appalling. Regardless, in case any other users are facing similar issues, I want to document my findings in case it helps them.

My issues seem to have stemmed from the Windows 10 20H2 update. I had to uninstall Windows 10 20H2 and reinstall Windows 10 2004. I did this by using the HP cloud recovery tool to reinstall the version of Windows 10 that the laptop originally shipped with. Doing so has caused my issues to disappear for the time being.

Unfortunately there is a downside - I cannot update my Windows to the latest update, since that might break my device again. So for the time being I have disabled the update service so that Windows doesn't automatically update itself.  Clearly this is not an ideal solution since I will need to install Windows updates at some point in the future. Hoping someone here can tell me when I can do that safely.
