Hi @Annabelle651,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Your HP Spectre shutting down even when fully charged is usually caused by overheating, battery health issues, or firmware/power management conflicts, not the charge level itself. The fix often involves checking battery diagnostics, updating BIOS/firmware, and ruling out overheating.

Hard reset:

1) Shutdown the computer.

2) Unplug all the Adapter and peripherals connected.

3) Remove the Battery. ( not for Built-in Battery computer )

4) Press and hold down the power button for 15 to 20 seconds.

5) Plug-in the Adapter and put the Battery back into the computer if it's a (removable battery)

6) Try to turn on the computer and check,

Spectres are thin, and if dust blocks the vents or thermal paste wears out, the CPU will automatically shut down to prevent permanent heat damage.
Test to see if the bottom of the laptop is exceptionally hot when the shutdowns occur.

Ensure you are using a hard, flat surface (not a bed or blanket) to allow the vents to circulate air.

Run HP Diagnostics

Restart > press Esc > F2 > Component Tests > Battery.

Please refer to this link

If a Failure ID appears, note it, this indicates a hardware fault.

Sometimes your laptop's battery management system loses track of the actual charge. To recalibrate and reset:

Right-click the Windows Start button and select Device Manager.

Expand the Batteries section.

Right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall device.

Restart your laptop. Windows will automatically reinstall a fresh driver.

I hope this helps

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

Best regards,

Kuroi_Kenshi
