Hi @samuelnkudede12,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP laptop battery is not holding charge as well as it should. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this and improve battery performance.

Check battery health
Use HP Support Assistant or Windows’ built-in battery report:

Press Win + X > Windows Terminal (Admin)

Type powercfg /batteryreport and press Enter.

Open the generated report (usually in your user folder) to see battery health and capacity.

Update BIOS and drivers
Outdated BIOS or battery drivers can affect charging and battery life. Use HP Support Assistant to update BIOS, chipset, and power management drivers.

Adjust power settings
Go to Settings > System > Power & Battery:

Enable Battery Saver mode when on battery.

Adjust screen brightness and sleep/hibernate timers to conserve power.

Calibrate the battery (if applicable)
Some HP batteries benefit from recalibration:

Fully charge to 100%, then let the laptop discharge completely until it shuts down.

Charge back to 100% without interruption.
This helps the system accurately measure battery capacity.

Avoid heat and extreme usage
High temperatures reduce battery life. Keep your laptop on a flat, hard surface and avoid blocking vents. Heavy gaming or resource-intensive tasks can drain the battery faster than normal.

Replace old or failing batteries
If the battery health report shows a large drop in full charge capacity compared to design capacity, the battery may be worn out and require replacement. Only use genuine HP batteries for replacement.

I hope this helps.
