Hi @Ashley273,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that the "Unmountable Boot Volume" (0xED) error usually points to a damaged file system or a failing hard drive.

How to Access Windows Recovery Environment:

  1. Turn off your laptop completely by holding the power button.

  2. Turn it on, and immediately press and release the F11 key repeatedly about once every second until the Choose an option screen appears.

  3. Alternatively, force a hard restart three times by turning the computer on and immediately holding the power button to turn it off. On the fourth startup, Windows will automatically open the Automatic Repair/Recovery options.

Run a System File and Drive Check:

  1. In WinRE, navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Command Prompt.

  2. Type chkdsk C: /r and press Enter to scan and fix the Windows drive.

  3. Once the check disk process is finished, try running sfc /scannow to repair corrupted system files.

  4. Close the Command Prompt and select Continue or restart your PC to see if it boots normally.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics:

Since you can’t get into Windows to test your drive, you can use HP's built-in hardware tests before contacting them:

  1. Turn off the laptop completely.

  2. Turn it on and repeatedly tap the Esc key until the Startup menu appears.

  3. Press F2 to enter System Diagnostics, and select the Hard Disk Test or Component Tests.

  4. If the test fails or reports an error/failure ID, your hard drive or SSD is physically failing.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
