I bought a hp lap top and it won’t turn on and function. It keeps flashing on the screen that it’s clearing the screen and not to disconnect power and it could take several minutes

@1981-law, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding new HP laptop

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It seems that your new HP laptop is running a setup or system process that involves clearing the screen or initializing settings. This could be part of the initial setup process when you first turn on a brand new device. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Wait Patiently: Sometimes, during initial startup or setup, the system might run processes that take a few minutes to complete. Ensure that you give it enough time to finish these operations.

Ensure Proper Power Connection: Since the message indicates not to disconnect power, ensure that your laptop is plugged in properly and receiving a stable power supply. Use the original charger provided with the laptop.

Reset if Necessary: If the process seems stuck and not progressing after a reasonable amount of time (e.g., 30 minutes or more), you may need to try resetting the device.

  • Press and hold the power button for about 10-15 seconds until the laptop turns off completely.
  • Wait for a few seconds and then press the power button again to turn it on.

Check for Battery Issues: Ensure that the battery is properly installed and charged, especially if the laptop is not turning on when unplugged.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
