Hello,

I think I am going to give up on my dv7 3065dx HP LAPTOP!!!!!

After further research with a black or blue screen, the screen should show something if the hard drive was bad. I jumped it to a different monitor and nothing.

I have been told that the video card connected to the mother board is probably the problem.

I have tried everything.

If I replace the hard drive and buy new operating software disc and pay to install I am looking at $150 to get the 7 year old to work.

If the problem lies with the video and is soldered to the motherboard I will have more problems.

I can get a good used motherboard for $60 plus labor plus the HDV plus the recovery disc....

Does anyone have any bright ideas???

I tried all the F numbers while booting and it worked only one time last weel. The next 20 boots, nothing, please help me!!!

Thank you!!!!

1-No, a bad hard drive will NOT show anything different on another monitor.

2-A failing hard drive may work for a brief time after a successful F11 Recovery- but will as you learned again refuse to boot eventually.

3-Did you not make your Recovery Discs like I suggestedwhile you had the laptop running?

4-Normally a  bad video card will display as blocks or lines on the screen. Or in some cases nothing on screen and continually tries to power on-power off-power on.

Yes I made a recovery disc.

after letting my battery charge up all the way, is when I was able to boot up and get it running for an hour untill I made all back ups and up dates and had to reboot to get the up dates updated! 🙂

I think I will do something maybe foolish but i think i will buy everything i think i need to bring it back to life.

The hard drive is easy, my ram is maxed out at 8 GB SO NOW WHERE DOES MY PROBLEM LIE?? HMMM

I WAS THINKING ABOUT REPLACING THE MOTHERBOARD BUT THE GUY IN CHINA DOES NOT UNDERSTAND THAT THE VIDEO CARD SHOULD BE SOLDERED TO THE MOTHERBOARD.

I WOULD LOVE TO GET A NEW MOTHERBOARD WITH THE VIDEO GRAGHIC CARD ON IT!

WHERE DO I GO? THE NORTH POLE? 🙂

THE OVERALL CONDITION OF MY HPDV73065DX IS IN PERFECT CONDITION APPEARANCE WISE.

SORRY I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT AFTER MY UPDATES AND CLEANING THE "C"  DISC AND USING NOD32 VIRUS PROTECTION TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING WAS UP TO DATE.....I HAD TO RE-BOOT 😞

EVERYTHING WAS WORKING FINE.

AFTER REBOOTING I AM BACK TO A BLANK BLACK SCREEN AND I TESTED MY SCREEN. MY SCREEN IS GOOD...

1-I do not think you need a new motherboard.

2-Sorry, I do not have any referrals in Ca. I live in SC.

3-You could replace the hard drive. I change mine myself. Takes about 10 minutes.

4-Your Maintenance and Service Guide is the first in the list of User Guides. Look through it to see how simple it is to replace Primary hard drive.

SO THAT'S IT?

THE BOTTOM BACK LEFT CORNER OF THE LAPTOP GET'S HOT!!! NOT OVER 165 DEGREES F BUT IT GETS VERY HOT IN NO TIME AT ALL.

I NOTICED THIS AFTER I BOUGHT THE HPDV73065DX USED AND BOUGHT A TWIN FAN COOLING PAD.

I AM CONFIDENT THAT SAVED MY LAPTOP FROM OVER HEATING.

WHAT IS BACK THERE?????

FAR BACK CORNER LEFT SIDE WHERE ALL THE VENTS ARE.

IS THAT THE  GPSU OR THE POWER SUPPLY LOCATION AS MAYBE THAT IS MY PROBLEM AS IN 5 MINUTES IT GETS HOT!!!

PLEASE BARE WITH ME AND TRY AND TELL ME WHAT IS GOING ON AND MY CURRENT OPTIONS TO FIX THIS.

I FOUND OUT THE HARD WAY THAT  I COULD ONLY UPGRADE MY RAM.

WHAT ABOUT MY OTHER ITEMS THAT GET HOT??

ITEMS THAT GET HOT WILL BREAK DOWN SO WHAT MIGHT BE MY PROBLEM ????

I ALSO FOUND OUT THAT THIS UNIT CAN NOT BE UPGRADED FOR BETTER VIDEO BECAUSE THE VIDEO CARD IS WELDED ONTO THE MOTHER BOARD..SO NO UPGRADES THERE BUT MAYBE RELACING IT IF IT IS NOT WORKING CORRECTLY.

HOW DO I TEST THE MOTHERBOARD AND THE VIDEO CARD??? HOW DO I TEST THE GPU FOR EXTREEM HEAT THAT MIGHT MEAN REPLACEMENT!!??? WHAT ELSE GETS HOT THAT MIGHT HAVE BURNED OUT AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED???? ANYONE, ANYONE MR. BUELER?? 😉 SOMEBODY OUT THERE PLEASE HELP ME AS THIS LAPTOP IS NOT GOING TO THE MOON, SO WHAT IS SO DIFFICULT HERE??? COME ON GUYS, PLEASE!!! THANK YOU, MIKE R.

Hello,

I do not know why it took 2 months for someone to tell me a simple test to see what might be wrong with my laptop computer.

You mentioned it could be my hard drive but did not explain in more easy step detail.

Anyway I simply unpluged my hard drive returned power and turned my hp dv7 3065dx on and it BOOTED RIGHT UP!!!.

It stated to install hard drive and press any key.

So now I am shopping for the stock used wiped clean hard drive on Ebay.

The cost is minimal.

Why no one told me to do a 5 minute job to rule out everything else, I do not know.

Is there anything I need to do besides replace the hard drive??Will I lose anything?

Thank you,

Mike R. Sunsetmr

I'm quite sure I told you at least 3-5 times on this thread that it was your hard drive-maybe more.I even told you to enter BIOS using F10 key to test it. You didn't feel confident doing that so I surely didn't think you would open the service door and unplug the hard drive.
