I bought the exact same nvme ssd storage device to replace a faulty storage device, for a HP 17-by3057c laptop, but whatever I try and do, the device does not show up when installing Windows 11, or 10 for that matter. I tried MBR, GPT, formatting or leaving the device unallocated, it just does not show up when installing. It is visible in the BIOS and all settings are AHCI. Do you or anybody else have an answer?

Your PC is supported by the HP cloud recovery tool which you can use on another Windows PC to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will restore the original HP software image on the new drive.
Here is an info link for how to use the utility:
HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows | HP® Support
Since you have to use the software on another PC, you will have to enter your PC's product number in the tool's search window in order to proceed.
Your PC's product number is 290B8UA#ABA
