My laptop did the automatic Windows 10 update to version 1709, but the BIOS that supports this update had not been installed. The laptop now will not boot into Win 10.
I downloaded the latest BIOS update for this laptop, but it is in the form of an HP Service Pack executable which contains the BIOS update. I cannot run this file on the target laptop, since Windows will not boot on that device. The instructions say to run the executable on a different PC to create a recovery USB drive, but when I try to do that the executable extracts the files to somewhere and then dies. I have not been able to determine to where it extracts those files to try to find the BIOS file, which should be 081AD.BIN.
Does anyone know how I can get this file? Once I have it I can do the BIOS update via the UEFI BIOS update and hopefully get my laptop back up and running.
Thanks,
Larry M.

I did this procedure, but before I can accept the EULA I see the files being decompressed and then the application dies. I have tried this on two separate computers, one being a Win 10 box and the other being a Win 7 box. The Win 7 box gave me an error from the InsydeFlash64.exe application version 5.0.4.0.
The specific service pack I am running here is sp83877.
Thanks,
Larry M.

I recommend you download the bios from the below link and then try creating the bios recovery flash drive.

I tried this executable with the same results. The InsydeFlash64.exe application is the same version (5.0.4.0) as the service pack that I had problems with, and it is getting the same error.
Would it be possible to get a zipped copy of the USB drive that the service pack creates?
Thanks,
Larry M.

I have attempted to go that route, but the warranty on this computer expired a few months ago. I have attempted to elevate this and get it covered anyway, given the dual situations of a Windows update that broke the box and an HP service pack that does not work as advertised.
We shall see what happens...
Thanks for your efforts,
Larry M.

Agreed, it should. That was the first place I looked. Two other service packs that I had expanded were in their equivalent locations. All I can figure is that it cleaned up after itself when the executable crashed.
If someone tries this and it actually does leave these files, please send me a copy.
Thanks,
Larry M.
