That was godspeed!
It was promising!
After two reinstalls
- Broadcom Wireless LAN Drivers (sp50744)
This now has a driver in my device manager. But there was a pop up titled "Setup Error"
"The operating system is not supported. The software will not be installed. Setup will now exit.
But GOOD NEWS is that, the manual switch does turn blue now. Instead of staying Orange / Red when switched either ways.
- Conexant HDAUDIO Soft Data Fax Modem with SmartCP (sp36610)
Device driver installation wizard screen shows result: Failure
Will try restarting.
P.S.
I had another query, but will probably need to be a new topic, e.g. how to have all these as well as the OS in my now empty D partition for future purposes. Can I drag and drop. Didnt install the OS from official website, but will authenticate with the sticker at the bottom of my original laptop.

Hi:
If you now have wireless, then I guess everything is fine.
Unfortunately, I wouldn't know why the modem driver install failed.
I suggest you delete the D:\ recovery partition and merge the space with the C:\ partition.
It is now useless and dragging and dropping files won't work because there is a special program (HP recovery manager) that can't be downloaded that makes the recovery partition work.
It can only be re-created with the HP recovery disk set for that model.
The only place you can get a recovery disk set is from this non-HP vendor, and it would probably cost you a ton of money to get them to mail it to Singapore from the United States.
And the recovery kit only comes in Vista 32 bit.

YOU ARE A GENIUS, because you KNOW what you are saying, you are CLEAR in your instructions, and you are FAST in your resolution. I hope you are making use of your talents! HP Support cannot hold a candle to you!
The wireless hardware seems responsive now, estarted that computer and now the HP Wireless Assistant says WLAN is on. First positive thing i have seen in awhile! Will figure out the rest at normal time for me (GMT+8), e.g. changing the product code for an original one under my laptop.
I could get a USA address and have a friend mail it, but still its 27 USD, probably how much this old dinosaur is, but hey this is pretty good laptop still! ive got two processors and 3GB RAM. But this isn't for me and not willing to spend the money. Will I be able to install myself a 32bit windows vista in the future?

Anytime.
Glad to have been of assistance.
Yes, if you have a Vista 32 bit installation disk, you can install it.
You should be able to use the Vista product key on the bottom of the notebook to activate either Vista Home Premium 32 or 64 bit.
Hopefully you can still read all 25 characters of the key.
Sometimes the key gets rubbed off due to its location and is illegible.

Did you install the audio driver?
That would be the only suggestion I can offer for that...
This package contains the Conexant High-Definition SmartAudio 221 driver and a user interface for the Conexant High-Definition audio chip in the supported notebook models and operating systems.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp37501-38000/sp37858.exe
Restart the PC after installing the above driver.
