Im experiencing FPS drops and stutters while gamin on my new HP OMEN 16 (1 week old) with an RTX 4070 and Ryzen 9, despite no components hitting 100% usage and no signs of thermal throttling. I've already used DDU to do a clean install of the GPU driver and removed the OMEN Gaming Hub. All drivers and software are up to date, tried switching between hybrid and discrete mode, but the issue persists. If this issue still isn't resolved in the coming time, I'll have no choice but to return this laptop.

Hi @5ee_yash,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for the detailed info you're clearly doing all the right things already. Since your HP OMEN 16 with RTX 4070 and Ryzen 9 is just a week old and you're still seeing FPS drops and stutters despite no thermal or usage bottlenecks, let’s dig deeper into some less obvious causes and advanced steps:

1. Check Background Processes

  • Use Task Manager > Performance > GPU/CPU and Details tab to spot any background apps (like Windows Defender, OneDrive, or telemetry services) spiking during gameplay.

2. Disable MPO (Multiplane Overlay)

MPO can cause stuttering in some systems:

  • Add this registry key:
  • Reboot and test again.

3. Disable Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS)

  • Go to Settings > System > Display > Graphics > Change Default Graphics Settings
  • Toggle HAGS off and restart.

4. Check LatencyMon

  • Download LatencyMon and run it while gaming.
  • Look for high DPC latency or drivers like ndis.sys, nvlddmkm.sys, or ACPI.sys causing spikes.

5. BIOS & EC Firmware Update

  • Visit the HP OMEN 16 support page and ensure:
    • BIOS is the latest version.
    • Embedded Controller (EC) firmware is up to date.

6. Power Plan & GPU Settings

  • Set Windows to High Performance or Ultimate Performance.
  • In NVIDIA Control Panel:
    • Set Power Management Mode to Prefer Maximum Performance.
    • Set Low Latency Mode to Ultra.

7. Game Bar & Xbox Services

  • Disable Xbox Game BarGame DVR, and Xbox Game Services via Settings and Services.msc.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hello @VikramTheGreat , I tried the following but nothing has helped. Games are still stuttering without the gpu, cpu or the Ram usage going 100% and the thermals are below 75c in performance mode. Latencymon results show that wdf01000.sys has the highest execution time at 5.268ms and ntoskml.exe has the highest dpc at 95238
