HP Pavilion 15-au063nr (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hope you can help. Bought a HP pavilion 15-au063nr a few years back from Staples. Did not use it or even try to power it on because I was using my other HP laptop. A few months ago I tried my new HP pavilion. Plugged adaptor in to electrical outlet and no power, no lights on power port. After about an hour it powered on and I was able to update all my software. During subsequent uses it took less time to power on, but still had to wait 10 to 15 minutes, unless laptop was powered down overnight, then it took at least 30 minutes to start.

Power light flashes orange before turning white (I think--laptop is at Staples now for checkup, but their tech did not seem very knowledgeable and did not seem to understand the details.)

I did ALL recommended HP diagnostics for my power issue. Nothing helped. Battery status diagnostic indicates NO battery.

I spent over a $1,000 for the laptop and have never experienced any problem with HP laptops before. Am truly mystified and unhappy.

I purchased a new battery and Staples tech installed it. Phone call yesterday from tech stating that my laptop with new battery was operating normally. Power came on immediately when adaptor plugged in. No waiting. And new battery was charging normally. Problem resolved.

Old battery that came with laptop may have been defective, or may have failed from non-use for two years. I think battery was defective, but cannot know for sure. Something to note for future HP purchases.

HP Support should emphasize that a power problem like mine with a new HP laptop may be due to a defective battery.  All the other steps to resolve the problem were useless. Again, it was a brand new laptop. That is the key fact.

Not sure if my HP Pavilion has Windows 10 or 11. It is at Staples now for check up and I cannot confirm. I may have updated it to 11 when I updated my software. I don't know. Thanks, Maria.
