Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)

My hard drive crashed so I installed a new hard drive. I was unable to down load a bootable format. I tried to create a bootable disk from my laptop to be used to install on my desktop. however when it comes to selecting the keyboard the mouse cursur does not move.

If I buy the recovery kit from HP will that get me up and going again.

Any help will be appreciated

Thanks

John

Yes or you need an OEM Windows 8 64 bit disk. The license Key Code is embedded in the BIOS so if you can just get a Windows 8 install disk that would work. HP still also likely has a recovery kit for it as it is Windows 8. Did you buy any chance ever upgrade to Windows 10? If so an install disk can be downloaded from Microsoft.

Windows 10 no longer available for free download. Need product key. Old hard drive crashed and I don't know how to get something from BIOS. Maybe my alternative is to get  a kit from HP. But I'm not sure if the Kit gives me a boot disk.

Well You gave yourself the Solution so all must be fine. Good luck.

Didn't really find a solution. I'm still out in left field - so to speak. Still don't know if recovery kit can provide me with the bootable windows disk.  Are BIOS distroyed (Windows product key) when a recovery kit is used?
