I've recently had a hdd failure and fitted a new drive. I did backup all my files but not a disk clone. Hence I've lost my drivers etc. I have managed to get windows re-installed but I'm uncertain which drivers to install. I have installed what I thought was the drivers needed but my USB is not seeing anything. Has anyone got any clues or is there a list of basic drivers. Alternatively if I wipe my hdd and buy the HP recovery disk will this re-build my machine.

You're very welcome.
That's not good.
Did you install the Intel chipset installation utility and restart the PC?
That will install some motherboard drivers.

The recovery media, if it is like the recovery media for my HP Elitebook, consists of an OS DVD and an application and driver DVD.
You have to install the OS first (like you did now), and then you run the application and driver DVD from the Windows desktop and that will install the drivers unless you uncheck those you don't want to install.
it is still kind of a manual process.
Something is not right. The USB 2 ports should be working without installing any drivers.
You can also see if installing the HP support assistant software will install some drivers for you...

Hi:
The USB 2 ports should be working.
The ports that aren't working are the USB3 ports, for which you need this driver...
This package contains the Renesas USB 3.0 driver. This driver is available for supported notebook models with supported operating systems.

Thanks Paul. I have already installed this driver but none of my usb ports work. When I look at the list of drivers on the HP site it is so confusing.At the end of the day my only initial problem was a dead hdd, so it can only be a driver problem. Will HP recovery media solve my problem?
