Hi

First ensure you made the Recovery Media, probably a 16 GB USB stick needed.

HP Recovery Media Creation.png

Next is find out why Microsoft (or whoever) is downloading to 😧 and prevent it.

I have checked it, it is not written to 😧 by the user or by Windows. If I am on D; looks nothing else than the HP recovery file. Is it an idea to make 😧 invisible in Windows Explorer.
The notebook works without any other problem.

THE CRITICAL part is have you made the Recovery Media?

By all means make 😧 invisible ONCE you have a working Recovery Media.

I have already made a recovery usb stick with the Microsoft Media Creation Tool. So even though I understand it correctly, I can make the partition 😧 invisible without a problem. An additional question is to make the 😧 partition larger with a partition manager a possible solution or is that too risky.

Hi

You do not NEED the recovery area in 2 possible scenario's

1 You have a USB with it on.

2 You make your own version.  Create Windows 10 installation media

To get started, you will first need to have a license to install Windows 10. You can then download and run the media creation tool. For more information on how to use the tool, see the instructions below.

Download tool now      and add in any drivers (HP_Drvrs).

Benefits are that you get to use all of the Hard Drive, and not re-install W10 1709 and wait 3 days for W10 1809 to finally deploy.

So I suggest Paragon Partition Manager https://www.paragon-software.com/free/pm-express/#

So shrink C: considerably, Make a 😧 Data area (or S: Storage Area).
