HP Notebook - 15-bw053od

I am replacing what I believe to be a failed Hard Drive (based on the BIOS diagnostics...it was the only component that failed the test) in my brother-in-laws HP Notebook 15-bw053od. I have been trying to email HP support but I get no reply. So I forwarded the email to support@hp.com which bounced back.

I have removed the drive, purchased a USB adapter, plugged it into my HP Omen and attempted to recover personal files. The drive appears under "This PC" but is not accessible. I have tried some partition software but the drive hides itself halfway through the scan. I do see, and can access, the Recovery partition. But I am not "top notch" IT experienced so not sure I can do anything with it. I am still trying to recover the files as well.

I am asking if there is a way for HP to provide the  original OS License Key for said laptop so that I can load the OS onto the new hard drive I plan to purchase and install on this machine.

Thank you for any help.

Hi:

The Windows product key is encrypted in the BIOS.

You do not need the key to reinstall W10.

You can use the HP cloud recovery tool and a 32 GB USB flash drive to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.

Here is an info link for how to use the utility.

HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Customer Support

You can download the software from the Microsoft Store.

HP Cloud Recovery Tool - Microsoft Store Apps

You will have to use the utility on another PC, so you will need to enter your notebook's product number in the tool's search window in order to proceed to make the recovery media.

Your PC's product number is: 1VK25UA#ABA
