Please elaborate on what you said : “Try the previous BIOS version. Not sure if it will offer to make the flash recovery-that is a new feature HP added and I can't remember what year it started”

I posted the BIOS version that was the one just before the one you tried. At one time HP BIOS files did not offer the ability to make the recovery on flash drive. All you could do was run it to flash a working machine. Of course, some figured out a way to extract the BIOS files needed and make a recovery flash-but it didn't always work. In the last few years HP changed the BIOS files to offer the ability to create a flash recovery or simply run it to update a working machine.

Good luck with the chip replacement. Sorry it took that to get your laptop back up and running.

@NitroJim

With critical info and locked programs on your laptop-it might be a good idea to look into Imaging software with the ability to restore an image to a different machine. Acronis True Image at one time advertised that ability but I do not see it listed in features.I didn't browse extensively though.

The two below mention the ability to restore to different hardware:

Thanks for the referral. The BIOS chip is on its way now and will be here Saturday or Monday. if it doesn’t work I will explore your suggestion of cloning an image of a computer. Part of the machine Image issue with regard to the software license in question, is the hardware MAC ID.  Perhaps there is a way to clone this also??

In conclusion, a preprogrammed bios chip was installed on the motherboard and  the computer was reassembled. The last thing I added to the computer was the battery. As soon as I did that, the system booted up as usual. Backed up all the file and now continue using the computer as usual. Total Cost $22.00 and a day and half of my time.
