Hi,
My first time here. Laptop HP 15-db0000na. I removed the back case from this due to running
slow. I thought I might clean/replace the system fan. To my amazement there isn't a fan fitted to
this model merely some kind of heat plate with thermal paste. Wondered if a proper cooling fan
could be fitted as similar models all seem to have one. Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @Gymmy,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding overheating in HP 15-db0000na laptops!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Cleaning and Maintenance
- Check for Dust Accumulation: Even without an active cooling fan, dust can accumulate around vents and heat sinks. Use compressed air to carefully clean these areas.
- Replace Thermal Paste: Over time, thermal paste can dry out, becoming less effective. Replacing it can improve heat conduction from the CPU or GPU to the heat sink.
- Ensure Adequate Ventilation: Make sure there's proper ventilation around the laptop. Use it on hard surfaces to allow air circulation.
Cooling Solutions
- Cooling Pads: Consider using a laptop cooling pad, which provides additional external fans and can help reduce temperatures during intensive use.
- BIOS and Software Updates: Ensure your BIOS and system drivers are up-to-date, as updates can include improvements for thermal management.
Fan Installation
- Compatibility Check: Before attempting to install a cooling fan, verify whether your model has provisions for additional cooling fans (like mounts or connectors) in its service manual or by contacting HP support.
- Professional Assistance: If you're uncertain, it might be worthwhile to seek professional assistance to explore custom modifications. However, keep in mind that it could void the warranty or disrupt the intended airflow design.
I hope this helps.

Hi Kuroi,
Thank you for the advice and the trouble you went to. I have now carried out your suggestions. I fitted a 256 Gb SSD and upgraded memory from 4 to 8 Gb. Can't see where a system fan might plug in but I'll get a cooler board as you said and that should be the end of it if I can persuade my child not to rest it on the duvet. Mega thanks. Jim
