Hi @Lori1831,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you are unable to access your HP laptop because the password is not working, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Check Keyboard Layout: Ensure your keyboard is set to the correct layout (e.g., English US, English UK). Sometimes the wrong keyboard layout can cause password entry issues.

Check for Caps Lock/Num Lock: Ensure that the Caps Lock or Num Lock keys are not enabled if they should not be. This can affect the way your password is entered.

Restart the Laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart of the laptop can resolve login issues.

Use HP Password Reset Disk: If you created a password reset disk previously, you can use it to reset the password.

Use Your Microsoft Account: If the laptop is linked to a Microsoft account, you can reset your password online via the Microsoft Password Reset Page.

Reset through Safe Mode: You may try accessing Safe Mode to perform troubleshooting steps, such as creating a new user account.

Recovery Environment:

  • Turn off the laptop and turn it back on.
  • During startup, press the F11 key repeatedly (for HP laptops) until the Choose an option screen is displayed.
  • Go to Troubleshoot > Reset this PC if you need to reset the laptop as a last resort.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
