Has anyone experienced this ??

My laptop has an intermittent battery problem, sometimes when plugged in it does not detect the battery, then it states that battery is plugged in but not charging and sometimes it works !!! have run the support assistant battery checker and for the majority of the occasions that i have used this I get the BSOD and a note stating; System Service Exception, failure is ACPI.sys ? occasionally the battery checker show a charge of approx. 75% !! Have updated BIOS and purchased new battery but get the same results ! without the battery the laptop runs fine, if I boot the system with the battery installed the boot up time takes an age ??

Any comments/help appreciated.

Hi @ALANDJ,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you have battery issues with your laptop.

Don't worry I'll do my best to help you with this.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Could you provide me with the exact model of the notebook? Please use this link to find this information: http://hp.care/2bygf7l

Did this happen after a recent software update or upgrade?

Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the battery drivers from device manager?

Have you tried to update the Bios?

Have you tried to update the drivers either using Windows update or using HP Support Assistant?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform a Hard reset on the notebook: A power reset (or hard restart) clears all information from the computer's memory without erasing any personal data. Performing a power reset might fix conditions such as Windows not responding, a blank display, software freezing, keyboard stops responding, or other external devices locking up.

Unplug the charge and use the laptop until the battery drains to 15%.

Turn off the laptop and turn it back on after 30mins.

Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager,

Restart the computer and the issue should be fixed.

Also, Go through them all and let me know what you have determined is causing the issue. The first document has the most relevant troubleshooting if your battery appears to be not charging.

I would suggest please update the Bios and Chipset on your PC from our HP Support website, using this link.

Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.

Battery Does not Power Notebook or Hold a Charge

HP Notebook PCs - Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows 10)

Next thing, I would suggest here is to run the test on the battery from F2.(Click on Component test - Scroll down to Power)

Please remember to capture the failure ID for further assistance.

For more assistance, please follow the steps suggested in the support document for - HP Notebook PCs - HP Battery Alert Appears Before Windows Starts

Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Jeet,

Thanks for your response!! I had atempted all of the possible solutions that you offered with no joy ! I finally discovered the cause which was a faulty Ram module that i installed a couple of weks ago, although it was compatible as soon as i removed it everything started to work fine again !!

Thanks for your interest !!
