Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi there,

I have to restore a Pavilion x360 convertible. Original OS was working ok bu the machine badly needed an SSD upgrade. So I used the updated Windows 10 Home to create a recovery USB key (duly checked by HP Restore Manager) and started restoring. To say the restore process is slow is an understatement.

After 2 hours very slowly decompressing from the SSD itself, the HP Recovery Manager encountered an error with some MacAfee package, only providing me with the option to restart the computer.

Restarting of course doesn't help.

There seem to be no obvious way out of this failed package, like a "skip" button, for example.

So what is the proper way to restore an HP Pavilion x360 convertible?

Hi @Cubytus,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your Pavilion x360 convertible. Can you please provide more details about what happened during the restoration process and what you're experiencing now?

In the meantime, here are some general steps that you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

  • Restart your computer and try to boot it up again. If the restoration process was interrupted, there may be some system files missing or corrupted that are preventing the computer from working properly.
  • Check the device drivers and make sure they are up-to-date. Go to the manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers for your device.
  • Check the hard drive for errors. You can use the built-in Windows tool called Check Disk to scan for any errors on the hard drive.
  • If none of these steps work, you may need to consider reinstalling the operating system. Make sure to back up your data before doing so, as reinstalling the operating system will erase all data on the hard drive.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Alden4,

The factory image restoration process happened just as I described it. After numerous cycles of decompressing / installing / restarting, the factory image encountered an issue with some included McAfee package, and only provided the option to reboot, resuming the process and losing the slow progress accumulated so far. The annoying part is that it is HP's own factory image.
