Hello,

Thank you for your update. I would be glad if I could be of help.

Here is where you can purchase the recovery media for Windows 8.1 from > http://www.computersurgeons.com/p-27644-windows-81-recovery-kit-799727-003-for-hp-stream-notebook-mo...

It would be a USB thumbdrive which contains the operating system, drivers and few preinstalled apps.

Once you receive the USB drive, here are detailed instructions how to perform the recovery > http://hp.dezide.com/ts/start.jsp?guide=HPSystemRecovery.net&section=ccweb&SFS=tdoc&language=english...

Basically, you will need to insert the recovery media, boot with pressing F9, select the USB device to boot from and follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows.

Tips: Post install : If McAfee is installed/present, remember to uninstall it completely from Control Panel > Programs and features. You may also want to run their removal tool > http://us.mcafee.com/apps/supporttools/mcpr/mcpr.asp

Hope this helps.

OOOOHHHH please help, I'm stuck and dont know what to do now. Put in the USB recovery thing, did F9, did the backup, inserted another USB to copy backup to and took it out when done, clicked next and it went back to first page which ask file backup or reset computer to factory original. I dont know what to do now.............

You would select the option to reset computer to factory original, I believe that is what you are trying to do?  When it is restored back to Windows 8.1, you could upgrade it again to Windows 10 if you want.

Hi @tltreadway

Thank you for coming back.

Yes, I would do the same as suggested by @kyle_b

Reset to factory default is what you need to select and to proceed with the steps and reinstall Windows.

As mentioned earier by me, if you do want to back up (copy) files, this should be done previous ro the recovery process so that you are 100% sure you have copied everything you may need. Once recovery has started (or completed), you will not be able to restore anything from before. If you need assistance with regards to the data backup - please, let me know.
