Hello,
Last night my pc start running slow and (even when plugged on the elektrcity net) the battery went down.
I looked at my 'hp support' which suggested 2 updates, which one was a BIOS update.
Following the perspective of solving my slow laptop, i started to run the updates.
I noticed my fans going into action and the BIOS updates started.
After some procedures completed through the writing + verifying, the laptop suddenly went out of power.
This must have corrupted my BIOS (or something), because i cannot get the laptop to start at this moment.
- The screen stays black & fans are not starting/working.
- Power button still works.
- When pressing the power button, a certain CAPS LOCK sequence begins (3 long blinks, followed by 2 short blinks)
- This sequence is repeated 2 times, then the power goes back off, back on again, and the sequence repeats.
All specs & details from my laptop you can find through THIS LINK to the Coolblue shop.
I have tried the below key combinations, but without succes:
- windows + V
- windows + B
- 'B'
I cannot seem to get into the BIOS menu.
I tried to run/load external BIOS from an USB-stick, but for this i need to enter the BIOS menu to select 'load from USB' rather than the hard disk of the laptop. I cannot seem to get into that menu. Allready tried all F+x options, including delete-button, without any succes.
The laptop is 3 years old.
I would rather not put this device into the garbage bin yet.
What would be your advice?
Which options have i overlooked or are still available?
Is the laptop ready for the garbage bin?
Thanks a lot for the feedback.

Hi @Nick384,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Experiencing a power outage while updating the BIOS on an HP Pavilion - 15 can have serious consequences and potentially result in system failure or damage. When updating the BIOS, it is crucial to maintain a stable power supply to ensure the process completes successfully.
If a power outage occurs during a BIOS update, it can interrupt the process and leave the system in an unstable state. Here are some steps you can take if you encounter this situation.
- Check the power supply: Ensure that the power source is working correctly. Check if the power cord is properly connected, and try plugging it into a different outlet to rule out any issues with the power source.
- Restart the system: If the power comes back on, attempt to restart the computer. Sometimes, the BIOS update may not have been fully completed, and a restart can trigger the system to try the update again.
- Enter BIOS recovery mode: If the system fails to boot after a power outage during a BIOS update, you may need to enter the BIOS recovery mode. The specific steps to enter this mode vary depending on the HP Pavilion model, so refer to the user manual or HP's support website for instructions.
- Use a BIOS recovery tool: Some HP Pavilion models come with a built-in BIOS recovery tool that can help restore the BIOS to a previous version or recover from a failed update. Again, refer to the user manual or HP's support website for details on how to use this tool for your specific model.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
