I have an old HP Notebook that still functions but very, very slowly. I've loaded updates and already performed the HP Diagnostic online. No problems showed, however the computer can take a long time, up to minutes, just to open a file or program. It also freezes for a short time intermittently, such as when writing in Word. Is it possible to improve the speed? If so, how? Thank you.

The specs of your machine is
https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c04493615
It has slow CPU, slow disk and small RAM. Due to mall RAM therefore system will page/swap to disk which causes the slow disk spinning to dead. My suggestion
1. Increase RAM: It only has 1 slot of RAM, you can replace existing 4G with 8GB (max) using the following compatible RAM:
https://www.crucial.com/memory/ddr3/ct102464bf160b/ct6640090
2. Upgrade HDD: Because you can't add more RAM to more than 8GB, you need a faster disk. You can upgrade your slow 1TB 5400RPM hard drive to 1TB 2.5" SSD using the following compatible drive
https://www.crucial.com/ssd/mx500/ct1000mx500ssd1/ct11499487

Regards.
