Microsoft Windows XP

    Hello all:

As I said in my last post that my old wXP machine can not be re-installed.  During the re-installation with system CD "wXPpro sp2", it always stops with BLUE-Screen saying:

"........... if this screen appears again, follow these steps:  ........................."

Yesterday I consider the cause is harddisk, tried and failed and then excluded harddisk. Now I consider "VIRUS"

I did not concern viruses for this machine for years. And so now I am not familiar with virus software.

Could please tell me the popular  virus-software and the usage to me!

   Thanks!

Hi:

Your notebook is not supported by HP for Windows XP, and the reason you are getting the BSOD is because WXP does not have the sata controller driver needed to find the hard drive.

So...read the info at the link below--Intel section, and then read the downloadable document on how to slipstream all of the sata drivers.

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebooks-Archive-Read-Only/SATA-drivers-for-XP-solution-on-0x0000007B...

I have zipped up and attached the XP 32 bit sata drivers you need to slipstream below.

Now, if you have a USB floppy drive, you can skip all of the above, copy just the files I posted without the folder to a floppy disk.

Then when you go to install XP and it asks you to press F6 if you have to add a storage controller driver, press F6.

Then XP will continue to load files, stop and will now ask you to select the sata controller driver by pressing 's'

Now the files you copied to your floppy disk will show up on the screen and you need to use either the up or down arrow key (the files are not in order), so use whatever arrow key you need to scroll to and select the:

Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller

Then leave the usb floppy drive plugged into the PC until XP is completely installed.  XP will continue to pull files off that floppy disk during the installation process.

Hello Paul-Tikkanen:  Your last reply makes me back to the past.

6-year ago I bought the Pavilion dv6-1334us. The original OS is w7. I dislike it and tried to downgrade the w7 to XP. One  expert like you in this Forum helped me. {Maybe: Mumbodog?]

When the downgrade succeeded, I backed it up. So I just need to restore the old backup for getting new installation.

    One strange thing is happening!

You know my wXP now always have warnings, such as:

An Error has occeured in the script of this page

                                                          Line    24

                                                          char   1

                                                         Error    object expected

                                                         code     0

                                                         URL    ........................................

Do you want to continue running on this page?

                                                                          yes                              no

Sometime, these warning could be more than ten.   I hate them and want to know the origin.

To my surprising, these warnings even appear on the restoration from the  6-year ago backups.

Where does these warnings come from??????  Could you tell me?

Unfortunately, that I do not know.

I suggest you install a different browser.

IE8 has lots of bugs now with the new webpage designs.

Firefox still works great on Windows XP.

And now that the Microsoft Security Essentials doesn't work on XP anymore, I use the free Kingsoft A/V program.

     Hello Paul_Tikkanen:

I have tried to use Firefox.  Hope it improve my situation.

Your last post, also suggest Kingsoft A/V program.  I donn't know it before,

could you introduce it to me briefly.

By the way, I saw one brand HP laptop:

         HP - Pavilion x360 2-in-1 15.6" Touch-Screen Laptop - Intel Core i5 - 6GB Memory - 1TB Hard Drive

What is the meaning of:  x360  2-in-1

I want to know the best 15.6"  HP laptop. Couly introduce to me?

Hi:

Here is a review of the Kingsoft antivirus program...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4dj2FdHM8o

As far as the x360  2-in-1... I would enter the model number in the support page and then take a look at the user guide.

I think those kind of PC's work like this...

The computer can function as a classic notebook, and in addition, the display can be rotated so that the computer transforms into an entertainment stand, an interactive stand, or a tablet.

      Hello  Paul_Tikkanen:

     Special thing is happening.

I download the Kingsoft a/v and install it.   After installing, it seems normal.  BUT when prees the "quick Scan"

the whole screen becames "dead"  Anything can not work, even the "ctrl + alt + del" can not work.

By the end, I have to force the pc down by "press the power button"    and re-start the pc to give you

this information.

Did I not to use the Kingsoft right???!!!!

HP Recommended

I would uninstall it then if you are having issues with it.

Try a different free A/V....AVG or Avast.

       Hi Paul_Tikkanen:

       Strange !!!!!!!!!!!!!

As you pointed out for me, I changed to install AVG

After installing, I let it scan.  It scanned the full harddisk and seems normal.  BUT after scanning, the whole screen

was in a mess. I can not recover it to order and finally have to force it to close again.

.

Both AV softwares, kingsoft and avg, can not work. It seems not my mistakes.

Whwre did these awful results come from?

HP Recommended

Very strange indeed!

Unfortunately, I have no idea what you are going to do about getting a free antivirus program to work.

Do a search for 'free antivirus programs,' and see if some others will work for you.

There have to be more than what I suggested.

Good luck,
